Maintain Your Healthy Smile
Having a thorough oral hygiene routine is great for your teeth and gums, but it doesn't mean you can skip your regular dental visits. Plaque and tartar buildup can fly under your radar, resulting in dental issues like tooth decay and gum disease.
Regular oral exams allow your dentist to search for oral health issues that you may have. If an issue is detected, your dentist can prevent it from turning into a larger problem by beginning treatment promptly.
During the appointment, your dentist will examine the health of your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite. X-rays and an oral cancer screening may be performed if needed, and your hygienist will clean your teeth to remove any plaque and tartar buildup.
Oral Cancer Screening
During a screening, your dentist will check the inside of your mouth to for red or white patches or sores. They'll also feel the tissues in your mouth to look for lumps, lesions, cysts, or other abnormalities. To look for other signs of oral cancer, your dentist may also examine your throat, lips, and tongue.
At-Home Oral Health Care
Although you should be seeing the dentists regularly, these appointments should be supported by a proper at-home oral hygiene routine. Take care of your teeth and gums by brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes and flossing at least once every day.
Hygiene Cleaning
Regularly having your teeth cleaned at the dentist is a great way for you to help prevent oral health problems. A professional cleaning can clean off stuck-on plaque and tartar that is left behind even after you brush your teeth.
Visiting us at least twice a year for professional teeth cleanings allows us to detect and prevent a variety of oral health issues, such as tooth decay (cavities) and gum disease.
Fluoride Treatment
If a patient seems to be at a high risk of developing tooth decay, our dentists may recommend fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel. It also has the ability to prevent and even reverse tooth decay.
Your dental hygienist will apply a varnish or gel with a high concentration level of fluoride. This can effectively protect your teeth and the process can be quickly done during your routine dental cleaning.
